Answers by E-mail

You can send us your EMAIL QUESTIONS at answers@immserve.com.

But please, before you begin . . .

The internet is a mixed blessing for answers to immigration questions.

Government websites offer a wealth of "how to" advisories.  Examples include the CIS and Department of State websites. Consult our links page. Private websites like www.ilw.com are also good starting points.   Immigration law firms offer much free information, and our site is no exception.  See our navigation menu at left.

Unfortunately, information overload can make it tough to find the answer to your question.  And even if you think you have found the right answer, be wary!  Immigration laws and regulations change constantly.  A good answer today may be a wrong answer tomorrow. Also, a fact that may appear unimportant to you (and that you omit from your question) can have a drastic impact on your immigration situation.

Using Our Email Service . . .

For routine inquiries, we offer this free Answers by Email service.  Just observe these simple rules:

Do your homework!  Search for an answer within our site -- or consult the websites at our links page.   This willl help you frame your question more fully and knowledgeably.  You may send your inquiry in English, French, German or Swedish. All answers will be in English.

In the "Re:" or "Subject" heading of your email, type "Answers by Email." Send your single carefully-worded email with this "Answers by Email" heading to answers@immserve.com.

Understand that our answer will be limited to the facts in your question.  We cannot risk answering a vague or incomplete question.  If your question is inaccurate or omits facts, expect our answer to be misleading or wrong.

We cannot answer questions that are too long or complex. So find the right balance! Here is a sample question: "My wife is in South America. I filed my I-130 petition 60 days ago but cannot get a Receipt Notice from the Vermont Center to bring her into the U.S. on a K-3 visa. Any recommendations for speeding her case?"

We can answer only one email inquiry per customer.  We will do so as fully as time permits, but without additional research. If your question is complex, consider a paid consultation. Remember that we are attorneys in private practice with clients to serve and bills to pay. We are not a government assistance agency. We offer this feature as a limited public service because agency advice is often false or misleading and because some readers elect to become our clients.

Under attorney ethics rules, even free but limited answers create an attorney-client relationship. That relationship ends with our answer (although we remain bound by client confidentiality rules).  No permanent attorney-client relationship can be created until you sign an attorney-client contract with our firm.

If you were ill, would you trust the cure to a phone consultation with a doctor whom you had never met?  Legal pains are no different!  Don't make important immigration decisions based on this free email service!   If the issue is important, schedule a full consultation with an experienced and qualified immigration attorney.

In using our service, you acknowledge that you have read, fully understood and agree to be bound by these simple ground rules. Thank You!
